Let me try that again, and may I someday get used to operating Eudora! Any emacs user can tell you that the one true meaning of ^E is (end-of-line). :^) We've been using CVS for a little while now, and it does a pretty good job. CVS's main advantage is that it is free and portable. Migrating to just about any Unix or Unix-like platform or DOS does not mean throwing away all that historical data. CVS is a free package that provides configuration management and is built around GNU's RCS source-control system (also freely-available). We're currently using it to good effect on a large 4GL application that is installed at 14 sites in 14 flavors. While I'm not convinced that CVS/RCS is the best system available (from a functional point of view), I like the price, and I get warm fuzzies about having the source. I shudder at the thought of losing a bunch of history because I ran into a source-control bug after the manufacturer of my source-control software went under or stopped supporting my product.
