I want to use Informix as my database in PERL programming language. But i don't know all about Informix. 1: How to link the PERL programming language with Informix database?? 2: How Informix database work, does it like other database can communicate using query language? 3.If I put my PERL language in NT server and informix in Unix server,in this situation ,how i connect both??? Thanks alot.
ur asking alot... how about http://www.informix.com/documentation/ or http://iiug.org In article <3A286D90.DB7F01CA@mpmsb.com>, hpng <hpng@mpmsb.com> wrote: > I want to use Informix as my database in PERL programming language. > But i don't know all about Informix. > > 1: How to link the PERL programming language with Informix database?? > > 2: How Informix database work, does it like other database can > communicate using query language? > > 3.If I put my PERL language in NT server and informix in Unix server,in > this situation ,how i connect both??? > > Thanks alot. > > Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

See my signature, and the other discussion about Perl, DBI, and DBD::Informix. > 2: How Informix database work, does it like other database can > communicate using query language? Yes, Informix uses its dialect of SQL (corresponding to ANSI/ISO SQL with many extensions). > 3.If I put my PERL language in NT server and informix in Unix server,in > this situation, how i connect both??? There are two or three parts to this answer -- but the important point is that it is doable! 1. You need to get ActiveState Perl (http://www.activestate.com/) and install it, and the DBI - using PPM. 2. Ideally, you'd be able to install DBD::Informix the same way. At the moment, you can't -- ActiveState doesn't have a PPM file to distribute. If you're using Perl 5.6.0, I think I have a PPM-compatible set of files that I can send you. 3. You need to install and configure Informix Connect or ClientSDK on your machine, and you need to ensure that you can actually connect to the database on the Unix box. This involves understanding enough of Informix on NT to work SETNET32 accurately. Ideally, you'd get DB-Access or some other Informix program running on your NT box and communicating with the Informix database on the Unix box. This allows you to separate any Informix connectivity issues from any Perl issues. Once you've got the basic NT->Unix connection working, using Perl and DBI and DBD::Informix should be very easy. One other alternative to consider is DBD::ODBC. It's main merit is that it is a PPM. Otherwise, you're into configuring your Unix server as an ODBC DSN, which is about as painful as using SETNET32 etc. -- Yours, Jonathan Leffler (Jonathan.Leffler@Informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix v1.00.PC1 -- http://www.perl.com/CPAN "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!"
