4GL sizes

Just upgraded 4GL to version 7.2 on HPUX (10.20) and noticed that the size of the compiled executable went from 2-4 times the size as when compiled with version 4.x. Stripping the binaries helps, but not by much over all. A simple report, for example, went from 360K to 2.6 MB. Is there a reason for this? Load and execution times are greatly increased, and it is a bit of an annoyance. Any clues if this can be fixed or not? Thanks, David Coburn
This is not your answer but have you considered r4gl / 4gi's? In my experience they are just as fast as long as you don't do too much mathematics. Been there, done that :-( The reason for the increase is probably the inclusion of the GLS stuff. > Load and execution times are greatly increased, and it is a bit > of an annoyance. Any clues if this can be fixed or not? How do you build your .4ge executables? Do you use i4gl, c4gl or makefiles of your own? Be shure to build your executables with the -shared option turned on and set your LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include $INFORMIXDIR/lib/tools, then your binaries will use considerably less space. If you use i4gl to build programs, set your environment variable C4GLFLAGS to include the "-shared" option.
