Christophe Maumont (4GL 7.20, SE 7.24, AIX) wanted some statements, including serial inserts, to run outside a transaction so a delete from another process would not be blocked. William Rice suggested a second connection with concurrent transactions in ESQL/C. Christophe decided to run a separate 4GL program without a transaction to insert the rows.

Hello,
INFORMIX-4GL Rapid Development System Version 7.20.UD6
INFORMIX-SE Version 7.24.UC6
AIX 4.3.1
Is there a way, in a transaction, to insert some rows with a serial column
without locking the table for others inserts ?
In another way, I would like to say to the engine that, in a transaction,
some statements aren't in the transaction.
Funny, isn't it ?

I APOLOGIZE, it isn't for another insert, but for a delete from another
process (it's a sort of communication system between two process).

In online, if you were using esqlc you could to connections to the same
database, have one connection be in the transaction, and the other one be for
your deletes. You would use connect with concurrent transaction... I am not
sure how other tools deal with this situation.

You gave me a good idea, I will run another program, without transaction, to
insert my rows. I use 4GL.
