Informix & SQL Server Together

We have a need to run both Informix 7.3 and SQL Server 7.0 on NT on the same server in a development environment for programmers (we do have separate boxes in production). The development server is a Compaq 1600 with 384mb RAM and a 500mhz CPU and 90gb disk space. Does anyone know of any issues with doing this? Is anyone doing it? I know that we've done it here, on a couple of different machines. I don't anticipate any trouble, but recognize that neither database will be particularly fast. You don't have a lot of memory to begin with, and there will be 2 databases sharing it. I might suggest that you set SHM_TOTAL to be something like 100MB for the Informix instance; otherwise, it will consume as much memory as it needs at peak, and unlike SQL-Server, won't release it. -- Dan Michaelis Database Administrator dan@kax.com Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
We are doing it and we are happy with it. We have not had performance or memory problems using a Dell PowerEdge 350 with 256 MB of memory. This is with five to seven simultaneous users. We use: NT 4.0 Server with Service Pack 5 IDS 7.30.TC5 SQL Server 7 Service Pack 1 Several databases of at least 1 GB on both engines. Just go easy on memory related configuration parameters (such as BUFFERS on IDS). Hi Have you looked at putting the databases on a NetApp Filer? http://www.zerowait.com/filers.html It may be a better answer.
