Help! Online instance corruption

While in the process of upgrading from 7.10.UC1 to 7.24.UC4, an online
chunk was accidentally mounted by and probably fsck'ed by the OS.
The 7.10->7.24 upgrade was successfully completed. The engine was
running in multiuser mode - no problem. When I shut down my x session
to reboot, the server hung. When it restarted, it would not allow
anybody to login. When I removed the ods start up script from
/etc/rc2.d the machine went back to normal.
When I realised what had happened to the chunk, I did some exploratory
tests - oncheck -cr, oncheck -ce, oncheck -cc. Oncheck fell over
checking the extents, complaining about a table called Informix with a
huge tabid and offets. I then did a restore of my 7.10 level 0 system
backup. The data was successfully restored, ods completed the recovery
but the extents problem was still there. Now oninit won't work at all -
it complains of a shared memory error - "Initialising DBSPACETEMP list
.. oninit: PROBLEM WITH SHARED MEMORY INITIALISATION"
I think that mounting the chunk as a drive on the box has seriously
corrupted online's smi. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do next?
My environment is : SUN Sparc 20, Solaris 2.4, Online 7.10.UC1->7.24.UC4
Thanks,
