Re: Oracle and IBM -- Grudge Match

I'm confused and so apparently are you. I made two completely separate statements (though to defend you I did pack it all into one sentence): - IBM has, and is marketing, database appliances based on the Z-series servers running IDS and/or DB2! These were officially announced at the IOD Conference in Las Vegas in October. - IBM has made available both on the IBM cloud computing platform and on the Amazon Cloud, complete runtime environments that you can install with IDS fully installed and operational. If you are talking about a 'Virtual Database Appliance' running IDS, IBM has that one for download also. The IDS Virtual Database Appliance is running IDS on Linux and it contains eval copies several development tools all installed and configured to work with the installed IDS 11.50 engine. As far as FPGAs, I don't understand. I must be missing something or my head's in the wrong universe. What do Field Programmable Gate Arrays have to do with databases or with Amazon for that matter?
