Table Fragmentation query
Posted in 1999
(pardon the pun)
Okay, I don't think that this is possible but to satisfy the higher
echelons of this corporation, they have asked me to exhaustively
research whether or not what they are proposing is possible.
(yes, yes I'll get on with it)
NT 4 with SP 4
IDS 7.31
CREATE TABLE trans_table
(...
) FRAGMENT BY EXPRESSIONreconciled = "Y" AND extracted = "Y" in dbspace1
REMAINDER IN dbspace2
This table is going to be part of Enterprise Replication (just thought
I'd drop that in).
Is it possible to change the fragment in dbspace1 to be a table rather
than a fragment ??
There, simple wasn't it ??
Basically, the idea is that because this table can't be deleted within
ER, we create a new table based on the fragment in dbspace1. Rather
than copying the data to another table (potentially 1 million+ rows)
which will obviously play havoc with the logical logs, can we just
transform the fragment into a table.
I have thought it through logically, read the manuals, and come up with
the answer:-
NO
Anyone have any other thoughts ?? I'd be fascinated to hear them ?
(relating to this topic of course, I don't want to hear about your
dogs' scabies...)
Cheers
