I'm not sure, here: do you mean *one* API that will run across all of them, i.e. DB independent? I know each of the major vendors has some sort of ESQL/C interface. I don't really know about the transportability of an Informix ESQL/C app to, say, Oracle or vice versa. In my (rather limited) experience, I doubt it would be painless moving ESQL/C to Pro*C, etc. Even in the 4GL market with something like Accell, etc., there are so many differences between SQL implementations that you have to severely restrict the functionality of your tool to the lowest common denominator. If you were going Informix, I certainly wouldn't recommend ESQL/C over 4GL unless you were doing a lot of hi-tech funnies, i.e. hardware interfacing, etc. IMHO, of course! :) Regards, billy.wheeler@digitec.co.za ---- Digitec Online - 20 Nodes * Johannesburg, South Africa +27-11-476-2008 * Best BBS * Best Sysop * @digitec.co.za * RsaNET User Choice Awards 1993 *
