These are graphics start and stop. The gb is the graphics characters in a standard order. In the absence of these, Informix uses -|+ as on your hp. PC terminal emulators are very configurable, to the point of being unusable. Have you copied the vt100 termcap entry provided by Informix into the termcap file you are using? Or point to the Informix version before starting the program?
