RE: Restore a table
Posted in 2000
The purpose of an Archive is to restore if there is a catastrophe. There are limitations and they are for consistency purposes - Informix SMI tables contain current chunk information. Each DBA needs to manage their own system within the constraints (and limitations) of the organisation. If you want to get back to a point in time, then you can start an Archive at that time and use it to restore if necessary. From your description it sounds like you should have another server on which you can restore to a point in time, unload the required data, then load it into your Live system. If you dont run into another server, then you are up to stop processing perform an archive restore from where you want your data unload your tables restore the archive just performed load the data continue processing Your choice! Let's say, I need to restore some tables from historical tapes in order to feed my DWH. These tables are in specific dbspaces, so I think I wouldnt have to restore the full instance. But, as I dont store logical log backup tapes older than 8 days; do I have to restore the full instance? > -----Mensaje original----- > De: Murray Wood [SMTP:murray@quanta.co.nz] > Enviado el: Mi'rcoles 6 de Diciembre de 2000 09:28 PM > Para: informix-list@iiug.org > Asunto: RE: Restore a table > > If you dont backup logs you can never restore anything other than the full > instance.
