Unable to get complete export.
Posted in 2007
A user on IDS 7.31UD9 / AIX 5.2 found that dbexport of one particular database produced an .sql schema file that stopped after the stored procedures, omitting all views; other databases in the same instance exported fine, and restoring a level-0 backup elsewhere gave the same result. Suggestions included checking filesystem space, logs, the 2GB file limit, dbexport.out, oncheck/update statistics, dbschema output and the -ss flag. Gaurav Saxena concluded dbexport had hit an error after 'end procedure' without reporting it (a known class of defects) and advised opening a support case. No fix is recorded in the thread.

Hi, I am exporting a databae from following environment. informix 7.31UD9 AIX 5.2 The sql file file in the exp directory looks incomplete. It is not having information of complete database and ALL the views are missing. What can be the problem? Nandkishor.
I would check couple of things first: 1. space on filesystem? 2. Online logs 3. 2GB limit 4. Syslogs Cheers. I will do an oncheck and update statistics on the database, ensuring
that it is not already corrupted. What is the output in the log file
(dbexport.out) that you get?

Reason for incomplete export file:
Mostly some error occurred during export and dbexport is not very good at
giving meaningful errors. That too in version 7.31.UD9.
Last statement exported in dbexported .sql may give you the clue about the
error encountered. Give last and last but one statement in .sql file to
this forum and preferably the error which you get when dbexport kind of
aborted. It may be as unmeaningful as "memory allocation failed".
Have you tried contacting Support ... looks like a defect to me.

Hi Gaurav,
The last thing in exported sql file is a procedure ---
create procedure "xcal".hx270taxid_ssno(p_iface_key INTEGER)
returning char(30)
....
...
RETURN p_string ;
end procedure ;
Actually the exported dump is fine because I can import the database from
this dump... only thing is it is not having the views. There is no issue
with export and import of another database on same instance.

That exactly means that you got some error while dbexporting. And dbexport
was not kind enough to tell you the error. Normal flow would be:
.....
create tables
create procedures after which in normal scenarios following two statements:
revoke usage on language SPL from public ;
grant usage on language SPL to public ;
...
and then create view statements.
....
There were a lot of defects around "end procedure ;" and not reporting the
error but during import. This looks like a new testcase worth reporting to
techsupport and get the fix.

Please respond to
ids@iiug.org
Hi Gaurav,
The last thing in exported sql file is a procedure ---
create procedure "xcal".hx270taxid_ssno(p_iface_key INTEGER)
returning char(30)
.....
....
RETURN p_string ;
end procedure ;
Actually the exported dump is fine because I can import the database from
this dump... only thing is it is not having the views. There is no issue
with export and import of another database on same instance.
