Best guess is that you are exceeding the kernel maximum for either system wide
processes or "per user" processes. Run SCO's kernel configurator and look for
these two variables. Use sar to get a feel for what you're currently running
at, and to monitor the growth of some of the kernel tables.
I haven't seen a problem with SCO 5.0.2 (as these things are dynamic), so
if you're running less than version 5.0.0, you may want to think about
upgrading.
