SELECT statements are not logged, in general; the UNLOAD statement is translated into SELECT statements. > 2. After creating a transaction log file and deciding later we > don't want it anymore, would this work the same way as if > we didn't have any transaction log file to begin with? > > START DATABASE xyz WITH LOG IN "/dev/null" No, on two counts. (1) The file must not exist when you execute the START DATABASE statement. (2) Assuming you rigged it by making a symlink from /dev/null to the file you did specify, the engine would get upset when it tried to reread the log file when it did a ROLLBACK work. To stop logging, you should use "START DATABASE xyz WITH NO LOG". Read the manual -- Informix Guide to SQL: Syntax Version 6.0. It's on the same page as the rest of the START DATABASE syntax. > We're using SE, R4GL, ver 6 on Unix. Pls. post or email. Thanks! Yours, Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h>
