Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A developer writing ESQL/C on HP-UX asked for better editors, IDEs, cross-reference/static analysis tools or editor macro packages than plain vi. Two replies offered suggestions rather than a definitive answer: one argued vi is highly scriptable and recommended writing custom macros/scripts for ESQL/C work (as colleagues had done for HTML tags); another suggested editing on Windows with the freeware PFE editor, associating .esql files with it and opening UNIX files over FTP (e.g. Exceed's client or FTP Voyager), noting PFE handles CR/LF-vs-LF conversion. No ESQL/C-specific tooling was identified and no clear resolution is recorded.

Hello,
here is a question for people doing ESQL/C on Unix.
are there any good programming editors/environments for writing
ESQL/C source code on Unix. We have Hp Unix and are using
<cringe> vi right now. We have been meaning to modernize
but have not gotten around to shopping.
any ideas on good editors and other static source code analysis
tools such as cross-reference generators designed with ESQL/C in
mind? Or perhaps some macro packages that can be used with
text editors?
Thanks in advance,
Han

As far as I know you can program vi to do most anything for you, why not
take some time and write the appropriate scripts so that you can do what
you want, I know some of our people have programmed vi to create the
correct tags for HTML, so that using fewer number of strokes they can
write html file to their heart's desire.

If you don't need to edit directly on UNIX then pick up a copy of PFE
(which is FREE ware). It runs on your Windows based machine. If you then
define your esql suffixed files as being PFE files, you can then edit
Unix files directly by using an FTP client such as Exceed's or FTP
Voyager. (Open up an ftp session and double click on the desired file).
BTW, PFE also understand the difference between UNIX files with the ^M
at the end of each line and the Windows files without them and can
convert instantly between the two.
Try it, you'll like it :)
