Connection manager parametrs
Posted in 2009
User asked for documentation on Informix Connection Manager parameters, particularly SLA configuration and timeout values. Respondents directed them to IDS 11 Replication Redbook Chapter 8 and Administrator's Guide/Reference. Bill Belisle clarified that timeout_value specifies failover wait time in seconds.

Can anyone help us out that we are not able to find detailed documentation about informix connection manager like what are the optional parameters to define SLA. And what does timeout value in FOC of connection manager mean? regards, Kamran
In IDS 11 Replication Redbook http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/SG247488/wwhelp/wwhimpl/java/html/wwhelp.htm refer to Chapter 8, it talks about connection manager in detail. Hi, Not sure where you were looking, but the Connection Manager is documented in the Administrator's Guide here: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/topic/com.ibm.admin.doc/id s_admin_1210.htm And in the Administrator's Reference here: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/topic/com.ibm.adref.doc/id s_adr_0617.htm The timeout_value specifies the amount of time (in seconds) to wait before performing a failover. Please let me know if you cannot find the information you need. Regards, Bill
Thanks for that link it really helped alot. But it does not tell about the SLA_WORKER, can some tell howmany SLA_WORK would be appropriate for about 500 connection on average? Can we change the FOC parameter without restarting the connection manager? How can we configure the cmsm.cfg and enviornment script for Connection Manager so that one connection manager can handle more than one clusters (e.g., having SLA for PRIMARY server od both cluster). We are running more than one instance and trying to configure the single Connection Manager for all these instance. regards, Kamran

I presume this is pretty much similar to what poll_threads option in
NETTYPE parameter specify.Refer to

ef.doc/ids_adr_0116.htm
for more details.

yes, you can reload configuration file without restarting the connectio=
n
manager
oncmsm -r <connection manager instance name>

I don't think currently you can setup single connection manager to supp=
ort
two different clusters. Why would you want to do that ? Can application=
s
work with any of the primary of those two clusters ?

Thanks for following command: oncmsm -r <connection manager instance name> Web URL is no more valid I think: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/topic/com.ibm.adr= ef.doc/ids_adr_0116.htm We have two applications with very different load on databases (i.e.,TPS,memory requirement,CPU utilization etc) so we configured 2 different databases residing on different instances (we tested that, that way we got better throughput). Each application will communicate only with its own database not with the other one. The setup is somewhat like: DB server1 Primary [instance1, instance2] DB server2 HDR [instance1, instance2] DB server3 RSS [instance1, instance2] We are trying to run two connection manager (cluster of Connection Manager so that if one ConMgr gets down the other will replace it), but we are trying that if we can run a single Conection Manager to cope with both clusters on one machine, and another standby Connection Manager on some other machine.
