It sounds like you need to carefully read over the HP documentation that came with the AutoRAID. It only has RAID0/1 and RAID5 and the data on the RAID is automatically shifted between these two levels depending upon a number of factors including frequency of use and the amount of free space available (to support RAID0/1) - hence the "auto" name. There are only a few paramaters on this system that you can adjust and you really can't really fine tune where the data is always stored. If you want most of your data to be available under RAID1/0 then you need to allocate as much free (i.e. unused) space on the autoRAID as there is space allocated for your data. You might inquire at HP about some recent documentation entitled "The AutoRAID Storage Hierachy: Performance Considerations" - I don't know if this documentation has been officially released yet or not. If you read over previous netnews postings (e.g. www.dejanews.com) you see that many organizations are successfully using autoRAID with their large databases. However, how well it works with Informix and what tuning you may need to do in Informix to optimize its use with autoRAID is not clear. Most of the Informix documentation assumes conventional RAID devices and such information generally doesn't apply to the autoRAID. - MARK
