Using INFO in a MODE ANSI database
Posted in 1998
Hi, Using DB-Access 7.23.UC4 on Sun Sparc E6000 running Solaris 2.5.1. If you use 'INFO TABLES' in a MODE ANSI database, you get a list of tables with no owner names listed, even when someone other than yourself owns the tables. If you use 'INFO COLUMNS FOR "owner".tablename' as the manual (p1-365 cross-referencing p1-768 clearly indicates you should be able to do), you get error -839: Table not found. You get the same message with single quotes in place of the double quotes, and with no owner name - all of which are inaccurate responses. I got the same response, unsurprisingly, when I tried to use the database@server:"owner".table notation too. Please can someone at Informix (a) verify this, and (b) get it entered into PTS as a bug, and (c) get it fixed. Or get the documentation fixed to refer to the correct subset of the table name syntax that is permitted - but that will still involve a bug fix since it is fairly useless to list the table names without owners in a MODE ANSI database, and you need to be able to identify different tables with the same name but different owners in a MODE ANSI database.
