Neil Truby > said that there is still a UK User Group but I havn't heard anything > from him or them...Hello Neil? Where are they? That is not true, I respond to your last email and never even got a reply. The UK user group dies due to apathy in the user community - the membership was typically 200 (ish). The last User Group had a membership clause that prevented most freelancers from joining ie you must a valid Informix license with support contract. The core of the User group was always freelance/consultants. I'd heard the group has been refounded (again), this will be the fourth in 10 years, and I expect that the same old problem will re-appear. Apathy for the most and too few people interested in doing the work. Regarding your comments in another area of the discussion and internal politics. I was once asked to stand as the UK board member nominee, but was later told that 'they'd' changed their mind because they felt that it would upset the balance between the European and US board members. Odd has 80% (??) of the board members are from the US I've also offered in the past to host a European mirror of the iiug site and again I've heard nothing. Personally I think that the IIUG is a total waste of time and when I asked earlier this year what they did nobody seemed to beable to provide an answer. > I'd be will to help now that I am financially solvent again and can > afford to visit the States to help out at conferences etc. I thought the IIUG paid for the European token board members to attend the conferences. ********************************************************************** The contents of this e-mail are confidential to the ordinary user(S) of the mail address(es) to which it was sent and may be legally privileged.
