Interesting. Did you do any kernel tuning on Solaris or RedHat? I find
it hard to believe that Solaris on Intel could beat anything... :-)
Ah, I've just noticed the Informix version difference. 7.3 may well have
some extra tuning required or some additional environment variables set.
HTH,AIDI. :-)

Solaris 2.5 patched by bundle of recommended patches from SunSolve.Redhat
5.2 patched by 3K-file-descriptors-patch recommended by Informix.
I didn't perform any tunings specific for any given version of Informix.
Of course I've played with NUMAIOVPS, RA_PAGES, RA_THRESHOLD,
RESIDENT, PHYSBUFF, LOGBUFF, LRUS, LRU_*_DIRTY, CLEANERS
and also raw/cooked dbspaces (it took me 2 days). Tunung' effect never costs
more than 10 percent on RedHat.

Overall times are: Oracle - 17 min Informix - 1 hour 50 min!!!! same program, same data!! > Ah, I've just noticed the Informix version difference. 7.3 may well have > some extra tuning required or some additional environment variables set. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ please, tell me more! bye klaus -- Klaus Thiele - Personal & Informatik AG mailto:kth@piag.com "Since I have taken all the Gates out of my computer, it finally works!!"
