Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Kirk Wells asked whether an onbar restore can go to an instance with a different name on another machine, which he knew works with ontape. Shunyao Jin replied (the same text appeared three times) that onbar save sets in the storage manager are labelled with the Informix server name, so they cannot be retrieved for an instance with a different name.

It is my understanding that you can not perform an onbar restore from an
instance on one machine to an instance with a different name on another
machine. I know this can be performed using ontape, but I just wanted
to verify that it is not possible to do this using onbar.
Thanks,
Kirk

Onbar backup each logical log and each dbspace of Informix database as a
save set in storeage manager. For retrieve the exactly the save set when
restore is needed, each save set have a label. For the label of dbspace
saveset, it contain the Informix server name and etc. So you can't retrive
data from SM to restore another instance that the instance name is diffrence
from the backuped instance name.
