ODS in Sun HA environment
Posted in 1997
Greetings, We are looking at installing ODS 7.23 on a High Availability system using Sun's HA software running Solaris 2.5. The cluster has two Sun Ultra 3000's with disk farm's attached to each server. One of the servers is used as the primary DB server and in case of failure the other server (which is a primary Web server) is used a hot backup. Enough of that. This setup poses lots of interesting questions/issues. The first is that Informix is installed "on top" of the Solstice software - using metadevice names instead of the traditional device names. Is there anyone out there using Sun's HA software? Any comments? Instead of using Informix's replication, the plan is to manage the DBMS using Solstice HA-DBMS for Informix. This is similar to ER but without some of the functionality. Any experiences? The second issue/question is that backups are planned to be run to a DLT tape stacker using Solstice backup (the Networker package) across a network line. I'm not to familiar with OnBar -- but the Solstice package *is* compatible with the API so I guess I will be getting out the OnBar docs! Any "gotcha's" for setting up OnBar or writing to a stacker? This stacker will be shared by several machines....so how do you manage such a thing? I was also told to look out for "exclusive locks" on the stacker?? What could cause this*? Any help/comments would sure be appreciated! Maria ----------------------------------------------------- Maria L.
