I think strictly speaking, Informix is right and Baan is wrong. I think Baan does allow a multi-tier architecture using it's software, and Informix doesn't have to deliver extra software to do this...., it comes for free with IDS. ;-) Therefore I think they both have a solution, but last time I heard, the Informix solution was faster. I have not tested this. > Has anybody done this before? Yes, and so have I, using the Informix solution. It's simply a case of installing IConnect on the machine running the Baan driver software. Setup your sqlhosts file and you're away. For the third tier, I presume you are talking about Baan GUI, which talks to the Baan driver via rexec. I have a diagram (proportional font required :) that I prepared earlier...., MUCH earlier, which shows a 2-tier architecture: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- +-------------------+ | Server | | (UNIX) | | | | +---------------+ | | | Baan Database | | | | (IDS) | | | +-------+-------+ | | | | | +-------+-------+ | | | inf_srv6.1 | | | +-------+-------+ | | | | | +-------+-------+ | | | bshell6.1 | | | +-------+-------+ | | | | +-------------------+ rexec | +---------------------+-+--------------------+ | | | +------+------+ +------+------+ +-------+-----+ | Client | | Client | | Client | | (Windows) | | (Windows) | | (Windows) | | +--------+ | | +--------+ | | +--------+ | | |Baan GUI| | | |Baan GUI| | | |Baan GUI| | | |(bw.exe)| | | |(bw.exe)| | | |(bw.exe)| | | +--------+ | | +--------+ | | +--------+ | +-------------+ +-------------+ +-------------+ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- For 3-tier, just replace IDS with IConnect, which then talks to IDS on the database server.
