Data replication question

Hello, I am using IDS 2.3 and running High Availability data replication (HDR) on Solaris 2.x. I am trying to determine if anyone has figured out a programmatic means to detect in software that HDR has been disabled or an automatic switchover has occurred. Essentially, I'd have a primary machine and a secondary machine. I have set the DRAUTO parameter to REVERSE so when the primary db server dies, the secondary's db server takes over and becomes the primary. Now I have a need to perform some special handling when this switchover takes place. How do I detect in software that a db switchover occurred? One brute force way is for me to monitor the Informix generated log files in a program loop and look for a certain string sequence denoting failure in primary and/or switchover, but there might be a more elegant means to detect this. Let me know if anyone knows anything that might be useful. Thanks greatly for any info!!
