ESQLC-Problem

Hello out there, I'm new in programming with ESQLC and I have following problem: I've written a short app to log into the server. If I compile my program with the esql-command everything is working fine. But if I try to compile my program in several steps (1. ESQL-precompiler, 2. C-Compiler, 3. Linker) I've got the error messages that SQLCA and INETLOGIN are unresolved externals. Can anybody explain this to me??? I'm using ESQL/C 5.01 for Windows and MSC 8.00. While linking, I'm including the libraries lmcsqlw.lib and isqli501.lib. I've also read in the manual, that you must have at least 1 SQL-Statement within your app, otherwise the linker would not import the nescessary libs. Im my programm this is a simple "$database dbname". What's wrong im my thougths???
