Informix doesn't have any "internal compression". I've looked at the data on tape. It's the same as if it were on disk. >We have several customer sites who are set up to use compression, >using the device entry /dev/rmt/0hc as the device for Informix archives. >Is this supported by Informix, or can someone at least tell me if they >are doing this and have successfully restored from an archive with >this device? Informix doesn't have to support it. Compressing tape drives look just like any other tape device. Or they don't work. Period. We use compressing 8mm's on our Pyramid systems, and restore just fine. 12GB per tape, up to 12 GB per instance. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Jim Burks jburks@promus.com ~ ~ Database Administrator / Systems Engineer ~ ~ The Promus Companies, Inc.
