These people have a www page at www.leadtogold.com This is the 4J compiler. It does work, and does give you a GUI interface - of sorts. If you compile your tried and trusted 4GL code there is however *no* way it can become a truly event driven application. It is still limited to following your menu/control structure with some extensions within each input statement (the ability to click on any input field that is part of that input statement). That means it will not become a true GUI application. It may be a nice stopgap just to get some kind of GUI interface if your users are crying for it. However if the Informix marketplace should get to be known for the type of GUI programs you can make this way it may even fire back at Informix. Eventually your users will understand that your program isn't quite up to the GUI standards expected by now. There is a very good reason why Informix extended the 4GL language so much when they made NewEra. You may have to work harder to get your application running, but the end result will be far better to say the least. Alternatively there are many other languages you can use to write new and true GUI applications. If 4J where to extend the 4GL language into supporting a full event driven model you would have to rewrite your application. (They may allready have done this - it's some time ago I looked at the product.) If they did (or have done) the extensions and retained the current functionallity you might be able to rewrite your application a part at a time. You would however have two very different interfaces to each part during the conversion process. Also they would have had to make a compiler that can compile code on MS Windows as this is a requirement for some types of GUI application. Some programs simply can't run on the server like they allways does with the current technology.
