INTERVAL - ADO ???

Hi can anyone shed any light on how to deal with a returned interval ( YEAR TO MONTH ) from Informix via an ADO connection. What should the selected value be read into ( in VB6 ) ? Transferring the returned value into a textbox causes an error ? VB6 , IDS 7.3, ADO 2.0 So who's going to be quickest on the draw pardners ?
