INTEGER8 and SERIAL8 support 64-bit integers directly.
FLOAT (in SQL) tends to be a 64-bit C double on most machines.
Informix also has NUMERIC(32) for a 32 decimal digit number,
which will be an integer in a MODE ANSI database (boo, hiss),
or a floating point number with a range of about 10**-126..10**+126.
I believe that a 64-bit integer only requires 20 decimal digits,
so that's well within range and works on any version of Informix,
whereas INTEGER8 and SERIAL8 are only available on later versions.

PS: What's the second I in this, if the acronym is for Thanks In Advance?
Or, what's this an acronym for?
