RE: ODBC and network security

Try to get Openlink to solve the MS Access problem. SCO SQL Retriever is the same as Openlink {No CLI} but the last version I tested was slow. Cant remember if it had security options. Next I have a working solution but some C coding is involved. INFSPY from the IIUG will do it for you, but get a good C resource because there will be a lot of code changes. Basic Idea is to insert a port wrapper. {This is what INFSPY is} Normal operation: ODBC {+ all the Microsoft layer} -> CLI -> Server port listener {TCP} -> DB Port wrap operation: ODBC {+ all the Microsoft layer} -> CLI -> INFSPY {On server} -> Server port listener -> DB Now with INFSPY you can monitor the communications buffer between client and server. Only allow data to pass on your C code dependencies. Please note that INFSPY is based on BSD sockets, ported to SUN SPARC, UNIXWARE, have a old port to HP, busy with linux. Works on SCO 5 with new dev tools. Simple, That is if you know UNIX, C, Sockets. Suggest your C programmer gets a copy of: "UNIX Network Programming" by W. RICHARD STEVENS. Let me know I you need my help. We have Client SDK 2.30 (Intersolv 3.11/CLI 2.8) on Windows NT going to 7.31.UC3 IDS on HP. All of which works...too good. We did have users coming in via HP's Openlink, version 3.2, which allowed us to specify what users could connect to the server and even put a read-only status on them. We had to switch to CLI (because of Openlink problems coming from MS Access and going to Informix) The question is: Is there any way to limit users or give users read-only access with CLI as we had done with Openlink?
