Java API and Large Objects

First of all, is there anyone out there using the Informix Java API? Is there a different newsgroup for Informix programming issues? Well, here's my problem. When trying to update a TEXT column, I get a RemoteException that appears to be caught on a lower level than my code. It also kills the RMI server. The following message is sent to the console on the client: Received RemoteException: Error unmarshalling return header Here's the relevant code: sql = "update proposal set custid = ?, name = ?, street = ?, city = ?, state = ?, zip = ?, zip4 = ?, contact = ?, phone = ?, fax = ?, email = ?, date = ?, notes = ? where proposal = ?"; try { Value v[] = new Value[14]; stmt = db.createStatement(sql); factory = db.createFactory(); ..snip.. v[12] = factory.makeInstance("text"); v[12].fromString(notes.getText()); ..snip.. stmt.exec(v); } catch (DBException ex) { errorMessage("Unable to save proposal: " + ex.toString()); } Note that my catch block does not get executed, the exception must be caught somewhere in library code. I have had success updating CHAR columns, but when I add the TEXT column, I get the aforementioned exception. I admit that I am probably doing something wrong, but the documentation in the Java API programmers guide is incredibly lame and there is no other reference documentation available according to the good people at Informix.
