It's all wrong. You should check into NLS/GLS support which solves the problem. NLS: National Language Support GLS: Global Language Support There are manuals for at least GLS on the informix web site. Start at http://www.informix.com/answers/ GLS is in new engines, NLS in older versions. Even older versions have no such support at all. I don't remember any version numbers. : :Emilio, :if I understood this correctly, you have letters with accents in your :character set (Espaniol?) and the ASCII values that represent these :characters are in the database. I don't know if these ASCII values are :in the 32-96 range but I am nearly certain the ASCII values do not match :the english "word" you appear to be looking for. : :I doubt that any database engine would give you anything for your query. :This may require an extra field with the ASCII representations of the :same letters without the accents and then you query on that extra field. :(Sounds awful and unrelational but it could sove your problem.) : :-- : -- Jake (In pursuit of undomesticated aquatic avians) : :+----------------------------------------------------------+ :|Aside from that, how did you enjoy the play, Mrs. Lincoln?| :+----------------------------------------------------------+ Nils.Myklebust@idg.no NM Data AS, P.O.Box 9090 Gronland, N-0133 Oslo, Norway My opinions are those of my company The Informix FAQ is at http://www.iiug.org
