Re: Storage pool
Posted in 2013
User received warning that storage pool was out of space, preventing automatic chunk creation. Jack Parker explained the storage pool holds unallocated disk for extending dbspaces. John Miller provided the solution: use SQL admin API command "execute function task(\\"storagepool add\\", ...)" in sysadmin database to add more space to the pool without needing OpenAdmin Tool access.

I have received this message - at a live site and need to quickly fix - can you help with a pointer
What is the message? My finderr does not recognize 29275.
You might check the informix log.
"onstat -c | grep MSG" will show you the name of that log file.

This is the message: Warning: The storage pool is out of space. To enable automatic chunk creation use the OpenAdmin Tool to add space to the pool. I do not have access to the server with OAT
I could have predicted this open. (not from you, but from the storage = pool concept) I don't have the 20 minutes it would take to figure out the solution for = you, you'll have to google, but I can tell you what the problem is. The storage pool is a set of unallocated disk that the engine can grab = from to add to dbspaces when they are extendable and run low on disk. = Apparently you have a storage pool which is out of empty disk space to = hand to the engine when it wants to extend a dbspace. There is a table in the sysadmin database which records the storage = pools. There will be a sysadmin function (or ph_task) to add more space = to a storage pool - since that is what OAT uses to do the work. You = need to either add more disk to the storage pool called out in that = table, or clean up some disk space so the engine doesn't need to = allocate more disk from the storage pool. Others will be online in a bit, and I'll be done with my meetings around = noon and can dig a little deeper. =20 Good luck. j. If you look in the manual under "storagepool add" you will find an SQL
admin api command which will allow you to add space to the storage pool.
In short, it would be something like:
database sysadmin
execute function task("storagepool add",
"file_or_raw_device_or_directory", begin_offset, total_size,
minimum_chunk_size, priority);

Thanks John. I really don't like the storage pool concept. It puts =
another layer of things to go wrong between the engine and the admin.
