RE: Sigh. IBM still can't get their story straight...

Create a mess based on product names? Hmmmm. Lets see... Alphablox was acquired when the pillar name was still DB2. Alphablox is really database agnostic and in fact it could be used as part of a front end for an Oracle application. Truth be told, Alphablox should be in the Rational product line since its a collection of Java visual components. All one needs is a simple JDBC driver and they're in business. The fact that the name still says DB2 is part of the problem. Its also sending out a negative message. I seem to recall that there was an information management product that was rebranded as a websphere offering even though the delivery was from Information Management's team. Can anyone recall the product name? The reason it was rebranded websphere is that IBM SWG felt that branding it under the DB2 name would have a negative impact on sales because it was really database agnostic and the brand DB2 would hurt sales when used with a competitor's product. Go figgure. -G Date: Wed, 25 Mar 2009 14:34:09 +0000 Subject: Re: Sigh. IBM still can't get their story straight... From: domusonline@gmail.com To: im_gumby@hotmail.com CC: informix-list@iiug.org Don't create a mess based on product names or codes: http://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/cgi-bin/ssialias?infotype=AN&subtype=CA&htmlfid=897/ENUS206-337&appname=USN In this case, Alphablox was included in a solution with Informix. The name may have DB2 in it for historical (brand name) reasons. Last time I checked Alphablox could access OLTP systems, although that was not it's main purpose. Is uses JDBC connectivity... so as you can imagine it can access lot's of data sources. Regards. 2009/3/25 Ian Michael Gumby <im_gumby@hotmail.com> Yeah, I spoke to someone inside IBM... Seems that they only sell it with DB2. I guess no one running IDS needs a dashboard based on Java widgets. Go figure. > From: dryburghj@yahoo.com > Subject: Re: Sigh.
