Re: Echo input characters in 4gl

One possibility is to use the attribute INVISIBLE; this works, but doesn't show you the stars you wanted. It has also been buggy in the past; indeed, I think that there is still (4.13/6.01) a bug in construct when you re-enter an invisible field the query criteria become visible... Failing that, it is actually quite tricky, to put it politely. Your best bet is probably to use a loop around a PROMPT '' FOR CHAR nextchar statement, and to display the relevant number of stars into a form field. Locating the prompt so it doesn't look to bad, etc, is one hard part; defining suitable termination semantics for the field is another hard part; putting up with the characters you can enter via prompt may also be a hardship. You may also need to wipe out the character from the prompt; this could reveal it on a slow terminal line, or a heavily loaded machine. Yours not very definitively -- there may be some other way to do it that I haven't thought of, or which I've forgotten about, Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> >From: bmcdoug101@aol.com (BMcdoug101) >Subject: Echo input characters in 4gl >Date: 27 Oct 1995 10:27:47 -0400 >To: informix-list@rmy.emory.edu >X-Informix-List-Id: <news.18322> > >I am new to 4gl (1 week) and I'm designing a report manager.
