In reply to Ed Brown's email about Unable to access shared memory, on 8 Sep 97 Hi Ed, > I have, for reasons too involved to go into here, a desperate > need to get some data off of an Interactive Unix computer > running Informix version 4. If you have Informix OnLine, then you would need to start up the engine first. To check if you have Informix OnLine version 4, login as informix and change directory to $INFORMIXDIR/etc. Usually it is /usr/informix/etc, if the Informix user has home dir. /usr/informix. Check if there is an OnLine-cr file. If so, you have the OnLine version of Informix. To startup the engine, you would need to issue command "tbinit". Please note that I do have not worked with Informix 4 but have worked with Informix 5 & 7. The command to startup therefore may be different. My guess is it should be *init. You can execute command ls -l $INFORMIXDIR/bin/*init to check up the exact filename. After this you should be able to startup isql. All the best and hope this helps, Ravi... -- Ravi Joseph Pinto, mailto:ravi@in.dhl.com Senior Consultant, voice :91-22-8503000 Astra Infotech, Mumbai, India extn. 1531 If Network is computer, how come Sun makes servers, not routers ;-) PS : Standard disclaimers apply.
