This is probably the best advice I've seen - follow what you like most. If you like being a DBA, why change. If you don't like it, then certainly look at development, or even a career outside of IT if you'd find that more fulfilling. I'm looking at the same question - after 20 years as a developer, do I want to make a change? And how big a change? (In this group, I dare not say whether I might change platforms too.)
