What do you mean? If you run Informix in the 41,000th instance? Actually, I thought it was 41,000 in a single VM session. As far as how insulated Informix would be from the hardware, you need to re-read the post you replied to: ">Linux runs on S/390 in all > the same ways as traditional O/Ses run on S/390: either (1) on the > bare metal or (2) in an LPAR (up to 15 partitions) or (3) under VM On the bare metal looks like very few layers to me, but I'm an optimist. >Try it - let us know how it works. > >> -----Original Message----- >> From: mbeattie@sable.ox.ac.uk [SMTP:mbeattie@sable.ox.ac.uk] >> Sent: Monday, 2000-August-07 6:22 AM >> To: informix-list@iiug.org >> Subject: Re: Informix for IBM S/390 >> >> In article <8mf17p$952$1@news.xmission.com>, >> <kirk.waterhouse@cibavision.Novartis.com> wrote: >> > >> >Since IBM released Linux for the S/390, maybe you can run Informix for >> Linux >> >=:-) >> >A database running on a operating system running on a virtual machine >> >running on an operating system running on a mainframe. >> >The performance would have to be phenomenal. >> >> You seem to be implying that it would be slow for some reason.
