We dbexport to a file system and go into the exported directory and compress
of use gzip to zip up the unload files, the use tar.
BMC also make some tools to export and import Informix databases.
The 2 gig tape limit is in the dbexport command and can't be changed.
Hope this helps,

PS and yes the 2 gig limit is a pain in the .. (well you know where)!!!

Thanks for the sarcasm, it did not help. Let me rephrase my question.
How does one export a 32gig database on to a DLT drive that has a capacity
of 20 gigs. All my
previous efforts ended up in asking for a tape when 2 gigs of data was
written to the tape. I
tried adding a zero to the command as some of you asked me to do, when I did
that it complained
that "Block size must be less than or equal to tape size". I want to know
is there an OS
limitation (HP-UX 10.20) or an Informix limitation that it will not write
over 2 gig of data.
TIA
