Perhaps we need to give our servers lunch time. Then they can cool down/warm up and relax. -----Original Message----- From: Adam Tauno Williams [mailto:adam@morrison-ind.com] Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2000 4:55 PM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: Informix freezing !!!!!!! >Check the A/C in the server room. This should loosen the dbspaces up enough to work properly ;) My experience has been that computers actually exist in a parallel universe where temperature is inverted, the hotter the server room the more likely they are to "freeze up".
Don't even laugh about that, we wall'd a april fools joke to the users on one of our local servers, all but one thought that the engine 'needed a break'. *sigh* Durban ZA, gotta love the user education level down here. But, on a more to the point note, we have had informix lock up on us a few times, not to mention the box itself. AIX 4.3.2, problem with the telnetd default settings insta-hang (tm), printing problems caused a kernel core a few times. RAID array loses a disk, so instead of kicking in the hotspare, the box just kills the array. This happened while I was on the line to tech support about the printing problem, 'and nother thing' says I, 'the fscking array just went down and didnt kick in the hotspare'... the deathly silence from the other side made it worthwile. Informix 7.31UC4. Queries with order by on sysmaster, bad bad bad. Oh yea, what else, oh, the 140MB core I dumped the other day :) </rant> its friday, I think I'll go get a beer brett > Perhaps we need to give our servers lunch time.
