INTEROFFICE ELECTRONIC MAIL INTERGRAPH (UK) LTD., SWINDON --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Systems Technology Marketing Date : 01 March 1993 To : Neil S. Briscoe Cc : informix-list@rmy.emory.edu From : Mark Tedds Re : informix bbs Neil, | |So far, nobody from Informix UK has got back to me so I would be |grateful if anyone could give me info. regarding local access to this |Informix BBS, particularly local phone access and how much it costs. I realise that William Daul has responded but I think this subject could use a little more discussion. I work for a CAD systems vendor and we sell on Informix and also support it ourselves so I was interested in the InformixLink facility as it could make everyone's life much easier. Apart from some complications over our support contract (we get used to this with our third parties!), I was told that it would cost the following: #1000 for the PC software and 10 hours connection time, #370 for additional 10 hour slots. I thought this expensive, to say the least. Why a customer already paying maintenance should also be charged for a service that should actually lessen the effort on Informix is beyond me. I can accept a nominal charge for initial setup but #1000 for ten hours connection time is ridiculous. There is absolutely no way I could ever persuade my management to pay for this - particularly as we run a bulletin board ourselves which is FREE OF CHARGE! Does anyone else feel the same way? I would be interested to hear Informix's justification for this expense as well... | |Perhaps someone from Informix HQ could give UK tele-marketing a |kicking. I have another outstanding situation with them (which they |initiated) and they havn't got back to me on that either, and they're |trying to persuade me to upgrade to the latest, greatest versions of |Informix. If only they'd send me the response to my filling in of |their reply paid card I'd no how to sort my diary out for March 10th. I received my reply on Friday (26th Feb) so I'll see you there! |Neil S.
