Performance is better on a SPARC IPX than a 486DX33 - both running 16 or 32 Mb RAM. The only complaint for the UNIX ports is the lack of a multithreaded kernel in HyperScript - maybe one day. One key issue for your environment may be seamless cross platform portability - this is a strong suit for HyperScript, it's shipped with a porting and deployment guide which basically says that the code doesn't need ANY changes. Font metrics, aspect ratio and so on remain a pain when moving from something nice (read UNIX) to somewhere barren (read windows/DOS PC - blecch!) but Mr Informix recognises the proliferation of the PC Windows market and products are developed accordingly. HyperScript has built in ANSI SQL with Informix extensions. There's a handful of local caching and buffering and data storage/massage techniques which yield impressive throughput and efficiency from the client. As for 'access prediction' - sounds very shiney, tell me, does the client do SQL optimisation before the server, then do its own caching? I've been writing client/server applications in HyperSript for a few years now and every now and then you hear some ripping 'throw away' lines like 'access prediction' or 'optimistic locking' or 'reading the chicken bones' and they all boil down to much the same; tripe. As for 'amazing performance', Informix will invite any opportunity to do comparative bench tests - give your local guy a call, way some money in his face, and suggest a trial exercise. Seriously, though, your local rep should know about the platforms for HyperScript. Also, your mailer addressing problems are probably just syntax; if 'person@host' fails, try 'host!person@your_gateway_host' - I hope maybe you already know all this, just trying to help. # Regards | # rm -r tmp /* # Adam Green, Federal Office, Canberra| rm: tmp: No such file or directory # Product Manager - Australia | ...bin there, done that? # Ph. + 61 6 273 1200 Fax + 61 6 273 1220 eMail adamg@informix.com >Thanks to everyone who helped me with opinions/tips on Hyperscript Tools - >Could not reply personally to some of them because my mailer refused to accept >certain address formats. >Well, we are still evaluating the development environment that Hyperscript >provides, but performance does not seem too much of an issue now.
