Problem with displaying Spanish names ... please h
Posted in 2013
User reported Spanish characters displaying incorrectly in dbaccess despite showing fine in SQL Server Management Studio. Setting DB_LOCALE=es_es.8859-1 alone didn't work. Suggestions included setting all three locale variables: SERVER_LOCALE, CLIENT_LOCALE, and DB_LOCALE to Spanish encodings (es_es.8859-1 or es_ES.819). No final confirmation of resolution provided in thread.

My customer queries a table in MSSQL Server Management Studio (Windows) which
returns a Spanish name, and it appears OK. But when she runs the same query
from dbaccess, part of that Spanish name now shows "special" characters which
she cannot read well. What do you do to fix this in dbaccess? Does it involve
with setting the environment for that dbaccess session with DB_LOCALE variable
or something? and how?
Thank you.
Its difficult to know as you are using a windows cmd window and= it
depends on the font used,
It's been a good long time since I = worked with a Spanish version of
windows, but you could try,
=
Try
mode con cp select=3D1252
set CLIE= NT=5FLOCALE=3Des=5Fes.cp1252
run query,
= mode con cp select=3D850
set CLIENT=5FLOCALE=3Des=5Fes.850
<= div>Run query.
Also how was the data inserted into= the database?
is There a specific character that you where expec= ting and what did
you get.

In my own experience, you must set the environment variable SERVER_LOCALE and
DB_LOCALE.
The last one must set the spanish locale, and the SERVER_LOCALE must set to a
destination locale. CLIENT_LOCALE doesn't not apply to the dbaccess program.

Again, my customer displays the column fine with her SQL Server Management
Studio, but we cannotdisplay correctly with dbaccess --> Banco Ita£ BBA S.A.
and when I unload this field to a file, this is how it looks --> Banco Ita\\\\243
BBA S.A.
I set: export DB_LOCALE=es_es.8859-1
then run dbaccess, but it still doesn't work!!!
Thank you for your help in advance.

Are you sourcing all three of these environment variables prior to running the
dbaccess command?
export DB_LOCALE=es_es.8859-1
export CLIENT_LOCALE=es_es.8859-1export SERVER_LOCALE=es_es.8859-1
