No you cannot access an external database with a different logging mode than the current database. If you are using CLI or ESQL/C you can, however, open a separate connection to the SYSMASTER database and switch between the two connection. I have found this to actually be faster than accessing an external database anyway. All of my DBA tools that need access to SYSMASTER work this way since some of our databases are non-logged (don't ask!).
