Offseting Database and disk space used

I am setting up a new server for our database applications. Hewlett Packard 9000 with HPUX 11.00. I have created raw device logical volumes to hold the Informix 7.3 databases. The logical volumns of 1.5 gig show 17% disk space used. Why is this holding onto so much of the raw disk space? Do I have to offset my database 17%? Thanks, Deb Nicke
What utility is showing you that the logical volume has 17% used? lvdisplay? Could you post the command you're using and the output?
