My overall opinion is that NewEra is a good OO-language. It's got a decent user interface and uses a very powerful Query By Example. You can embed 4gl code, which comes very handy when writing reports and also directly embed all sorts of SQL statements. The problem lies with the lack of an integrated development environment. This is the place where Delphi runs circles around NewEra, because the IDE is a really helpfull tool to any programmer. One must say that NewEra runs circles around Delphi when it comes to Large Database applications. Delphi does not support QBE, and NewEra has it embedded into it's superfield objects. Delphi also is a more robust language, something which NewEra is weak in. I must say it has a couple of frustrating bugs, which we learned the workarounds to. I feel bothered that Informix is not pushing NewEra since I prefer NewEra to Delphi anytime (Have a look at the interface of Version 3) but it seems that Informix did not listen to a lot of the critisism.
