IDS2000 / 9.2.....Questions

I'm looking at IDS2000/9.2 and am tremendously impressed with the new features. However, I'm curious......How come there has not been more of a buzz in this newsgroup over this new engine?? Have lots of folks upgraded, or are they waiting for a 9.21 or 9.3 release or something? How stable is the software? Some questions regarding 9.2/other products: ---------------------- If I want to utilize DataBlades, must I use Internet Foundation 2000? Will the straight IDS2000 engine (without the Internet Foundation stuff) support DataBlades? What does IIF2000 do that IDS2000 can't? Is the IDS2000 engine (not the IIF2000) meant as a replacement and upgrade path for the current 7.X engine? They are completely separate products, yes? Should I upgrade to IDS2000 from 7.31 just on general principle? Is 7.X being phased out in favor of IDS2000? If I stay on 7.31, for how long will I receive maintenance releases? What is the difference between the XPS and Red Brick products? As far as I can tell, they both do the same thing??? Any help appreciated....... thanks PS - Where's Art Kagel? Is he vacationing? I miss his posts. allen
I can answer a couple of questions per my conversations with Informix support and sales. IDS2000 is the upgrade path for the 7.x engine. You can get free upgrades until August 2000. I don't know if 7.x is being phased out but all the new enhancements and patches appear to be done first on the Informix 2000 version. In some cases those enhancements and patches will not be made to the 7.x engine without presenting a business case to Informix through your sales rep. I intend to upgrade my licenses before August. -Ron Ungashick "allenj" <allenj@ndr.com> wrote in message news:38A83E88.4600E394@ndr.com... > I'm looking at IDS2000/9.2 and am tremendously impressed with the new > features. Allen, IDS2000/9.2 is in fact a merge of the 7.x and the 9.x series of informix. Informix claims that this product has the stability of the 7.x series and the scalability of the 9.x series of the Informix engine. I heard people are going to have to upgrade, because in a while, Informix will stop supporting the old product and the companies who haven't upgraded to the IDS2000 version. Now about the datablades: the 9.1x already supported datablades. This is part of the scalabilty has been put in IDS2000. You don't have to have the Internet Foundation to use datablades, it is part of the IDS2000 engine. In the Informix Internet Foundation, you have extra's, like the Web-datablade and Java stored procedures. I think it costs quiet a lot more, and just has extra internet-oriented features. I can't tell you anything about the Extended parallel server and the RedBrick products.I know they are datawarehouse solutions, but nothing more. I hope this anwsers a few of your questions, greetings, Jo@chim. allenj wrote: > I'm looking at IDS2000/9.2 and am tremendously impressed with the new > features.
