andrew, > We too are having performance problems similar to other postings in this > newsgroup. I suppose it is the nature of newsgroups that only problems > are posted, but are there any sites that are happy with On-Line DSA. i think that there is something of a problem out there with this. it was mentiioned in one of the other postings that 7.x is an order of magnitude more involved that 5.x, and this means overhead as well. this means that there are plenty of sites that don't have the need of the processing power of 7.x, and would be better off with 5.x. of course, no salesman is really going to tell you this out front. i did such a migration, where all in all they would have been better off, (at least in the short term, i don't know how much they have grown), with 5.x. many sites simply don't have the throughput to overcome the overhead of 7.x, and so it will be slower, despite all the tuning efforts. which is another subject, tuning 7.x can be a very involved process, taking weeks or months sometimes. there really is a lot there, and you have to have some experience with it to tune a system well. there haven't been a lot lately, but sometimes there are loads of messages in this news group on tuning 7.x issues. in the end, i was able to make this system at least as fast, and in some cases faster than the 5.x, but it took some time. as they grow, more users and data, that is where the benefit of 7.x will come in. hope this helps, clears this up at least. sounds like you could benefit from some tuning, so you will have to play with that. mickm
