Every logfile that was used cannot be used again before it is backuped. So
you should have a process that continously backups your logs. On NT you just
run the program: ontape -c from the INFORMIX dos prompt window and leave it
working. I think that you should do the same on the UNIX. It dose not matter
what is the LTAPEDEV if the server accepts it. If you backup you logs on the
/dev/null device then you will not be able to fully recover your database
after the crush. Allthough I use NT I do not think that INFORMIX accepts
/dev/null as a proper device, but you can fool it creating a symbolic link
to the /dev/null device and then specifying that link as LTAPEDEV. I still
remind you that it will work, but it is not a good solution. You can set
LTAPEDEV to a common file. I do not remeber if the file should exist or
server creates it itself.
If you have a continous backup of your log files runnig and you receive an
error: Log transaction detected/aborded, this means that you have to small
log space. Add some logs then and after that backup whole system to make
them useable.
Another thing logs are backuped on the LTAPEDEV and the whole system (your
level 0) is backuped on the TAPEDEV.
I hope this will help,
