[ Tim Schaefer wrote ] But let me ask you Informix people, when your competition is keeping you down, don't you think you owe it to yourself to keep from blundering too badly? All those lost opportunities, all the kickings in the teeth from me, when is enough going to be enough for somebody with some balls to stand up and show they have enough pride in Informix to stand up for the company? It's very sad to see the spineless, lump of flesh Informix has become, rather than kicking ass with some decent marketing, and some people to talk up the products. But hey, I guess I ask too much. [ Bill Raper ] Tim This forum is NOT about flaming people and/or companies, especially about something that is OBVIOUSLY a matter of opinion. One thing you have to learn in the Unix world: EVERYTHING that needs to be done on a Unix system has at least 3 ways of doing it, and EACH ONE IS CORRECT. These wars were all fought back in the AT&T vs BSD Unix days, and the battle turned out to be a draw. Just because somebody uses an older AND MORE UNIVERSAL standard distribution method does not mean that they are incompetent. In fact CPIO is MUCH MORE UNIVERSAL than tar/gzip, because there are many flavors of Unix (e.g. the itty-bitty Unix called Solaris) that DO NOT by default install a zip/gzip utility. (And don't go off on the 'they're incompetent too' tangent.) In essence: You've stated your opinion. Thanks. You may sit down now.
